MADRID (AP) — Spain's Nuclear Security Council says one of the country's nuclear plants has shut down following an electricity outage possibly caused by gale-force winds.
The Nuclear Security Council said in a statement that the Vandellos II plant in northeastern Spain shut down automatically at 3 p.m. (1400 gmt) Tuesday after there was electricity line disruption. The council said the incident represented no threat to workers at the plant, the public or the environment.
Ange Lopera, spokesman for the plant, said the plant was expected to be back working Wednesday or Thursday.
Spain has six nuclear plants, with eight reactors in all.
