GerrityStone, New England's premier interior stonework specialists, recognized as "Best of Boston" in 2009, today unveils the newest state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly technology that revolutionizes the templating and cutting of stone.

"This new system is one big step forward for us in terms of our efficiency, workmanship, and most importantly our level of customer service," said Jack Parquette, President of GerrityStone. "We've computerized the whole design and fabrication process so that we cut custom stone countertops faster and more accurately. That also means less waste, less impact on the environment, and a safer workplace."

The process is two-fold. One of GerrityStone's professional designers creates a digital template of the kitchen using "Perfect Match" by Slabsmith. The software can underlay the template with a photo-realistic image of the customer's stone slab to see exactly where the veins and other distinguishing features should go. This is especially useful for lining up two pieces of adjoining stone in corners and seams.

Once the customer is happy with the design, the digital template is sent to GerrityStone's new cutting machine. The slab is placed in the machine, and each piece is cut out exactly conforming to the design intent from the digital template. The pieces are moved to an automated router that grinds and polishes the finishing edges.

"It takes precision to a whole new level," Mr. Parquette said.

The most impressive piece of the whole system is the SawJET that actually incises granite and other stone with a jet of water for the intricate cuts and the more efficient integrated saw blade for the rest. Not only does this allow for cutting around corners, it is accurate to within millimeters. The CNC SawJET and CNC Router are both made by Northwood Machine Manufacturing Company of Kentucky.

"This technology represents a significant investment for GerrityStone," Mr. Parquette said. "But it also means that we can continue providing our customers with the absolute best quality and craftsmanship while meeting our commitment to reducing our ecological footprint."

GerrityStone specializes in custom stone fabrication and installation for kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, and outdoor living spaces. Achieving the industry's highest customer satisfaction ratings and offering the widest selection of directly sourced materials are the cornerstones of the company's philosophy. GerrityStone is an industry leader in green practices providing education on LEED certification, as well as continually reducing its own ecological footprint and promoting green initiatives in the Boston area through its "Green Team," an employee volunteer program.

GerrityStone is located just 10 miles north of Boston in Woburn, Massachusetts and serves architects, designers, builders and homeowners throughout New England. The GerrityStone Design Center is open Monday through Saturday with extended hours Tuesday through Friday.
