BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The federal government is providing half a million dollars to support a plan for redevelopment in eastern Maine and assist businesses affected by manufacturing plant closures.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration is giving the grant to Eastern Maine Development Corporation. The corporation is headquartered in Bangor and serves all or part of five Maine counties.

Maine U.S. Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins announced the grant. They say the money will help establish and revitalize businesses in the eastern part of the state. They describe the grant as a public-private sector collaboration.
