LUNENBERG, Vt. (AP) — Plans for a wood pellet manufacturing plant in northern Vermont are benefiting from a state community development grant.

Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin announced this week that $550,000 has been awarded to the town of Lunenberg, which will lend the money to Kingdom Pellets.

The Rutland Herald reports https://bit.ly/29whIYg that Kingdom Pellets plans to transform a former paper mill in the village of Gilman into a wood pellet manufacturing plant.

Once it's operating, the plant is expected to create 21 jobs in the Northeast Kingdom.

Officials say Vermont Wood Pellet Co., in North Clarendon, Vermont, was an investor in the project.
