SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — Harps Food Stores Inc. has announced plans to acquire nine former Wal-Mart stores in Arkansas and Missouri.

The Springdale-based company announced Wednesday that it will purchase vacant stores in Cedarville, Charleston, Gentry, Gravette, Mansfield and Prairie Grove in Arkansas, and stores in Anderson, Noel and Seligman in Missouri.

Wal-Mart closed the stores as part of a large-scale reorganization in which 269 stores were closed worldwide. Most of the closures involved Wal-Mart's smaller stores called Wal-Mart Express.

Harps now operates 79 stores in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
