BARTIROMO: Unbelievable.
CAIN: -- ought to be encouraging. Yes, they ought to be encouraging money to come back instead of --
BARTIROMO: Herman, I'm so glad you brought this up. Do you know that this presidency is going to go down as the fourth worst presidency on record when it comes to the economy?
Get this. I'm looking at the numbers right now, the rate of real economic growth, the single greatest determinant of both American's strength as a nation and the wellbeing of the American people. Barack Obama will be the only president in history who did not deliver one year of three percent growth. OK? And we're averaging 1.5 percent over eight year, Herman.
CAIN: Yes. Yes, and the reason goes back to the sneaker taxes embedded in Obamacare, EPA on steroids and all the regulations, the uncertainty created by this administration, which causes businesses not want to grow.
BARTIROMO: Yes.
CAIN: I'm sure you've already reported on, you know, corporate profits for the first quarter are going to be down six percent. We have seen the signs that this was coming, Maria, you and Dagen and rest of the people on your panel and everybody that follows business.
BARTIROMO: Yes.
CAIN: Talked about it on my radio show. We saw the signs. But the Federal Reserve has been giving false signals that the economy might turn around.
You don't raise interest rates unless the economy is overheating.
BARTIROMO: And they can't raise rates.
CAIN: Overheating is -- right --
BARTIROMO: Right.
CAIN: They can't raise rates. They're in a corner.
BARTIROMO: So the question --
CAIN: They can't get out.
BARTIROMO: -- will Trump -- will Trump be able to turn it around? Or Hillary? That's what we're looking at in November. Who's going to turn this around?
CAIN: Donald Trump is the only one that will turn it around. Hillary is on record of continuing policies of Barack Obama. She has said it several times. So if you get a Hillary in the White House, nothing's going to change. It'll probably get worse.
You get a Donald Trump in the White House, since he is now leading, I know he hasn't sewn it up --
BARTIROMO: Right.
CAIN: -- and you have establishment continuing to say, well, if he doesn't get the 1,237, he's probably not going to get it.
BARTIROMO: I know.
CAIN: Maria --
BARTIROMO: I know.
CAIN: -- that's what they are supposed to say. But I've got to tell you, the man is on a roll.
BARTIROMO: Yes.
CAIN: All you have to do is look at not just the fact that he won all five states on Tuesday. Look at how he beat the polls --
BARTIROMO: Yes.
CAIN: -- by such a large margin.
BARTIROMO: Well, we'll see.
CAIN: That says --
BARTIROMO: Well, we're going to look to Indiana.
CAIN: -- the American --
BARTIROMO: You know?
CAIN: Yes, the American people are not stupid.
BARTIROMO: He thinks -- he thinks if he takes Indiana, it's over. I mean that -- you know, that's what he said last night, so we'll see.
Herman Cain, always a pleasure. Wonderful to have you, as always. Thank you so much.
CAIN: Sorry I got so worked up.
BARTIROMO: No, no, no, we did, too. We love your passion. Come back soon, Herman.
CAIN: Thank you.
BARTIROMO: It was really good to see you. Herman Cain joining us there this morning.
CAIN: Thank you.
BARTIROMO: Make sure to tune into Fox Business Network for our special coverage on the Indiana primary. That's Tuesday night, May 3rd. It all kicks off at 7:00 p.m. Eastern right here live on the Fox Business Network. You'll want to stay with us for that.
Then former 2016 Republican presidential candidate Fiorina will join me on the other side of this break after being named Ted Cruz's vice presidential running mate. We'll be right back.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BARTIROMO: Welcome back. A new threat from an ISIS related group. Cheryl Casone on that story and headlines now. Cheryl.
CHERYL CASONE, REPORTER, FOX BUSINESS REPORTER: That's right, Maria. Hackers released a random list of New Yorkers named as intended targets, and the FBI is now involved. That list has as many as 3,000 names on it and contains the personal information of both government employees and American citizens, including people living in New York area.
Well, the families of two missing Florida teenagers suspect foul play may have involved in their disappearance. Court documents show that authorities have taken the suspicion seriously for several months. The teenagers remain missing after they vanished in July while they were on a fishing trip.
And U.S. Steel claiming Chinese government hackers stole plans for developing new steel technology. In a complaint filed with International Trade Commission, U.S. Steel says it happened when a computer belonging to one of its researchers was hacked back The Pittsburgh-based company also calling on regulators to investigate Chinese producers for allegedly conspiring, Maria, to fix prices. Back to you.
All right, Cheryl. Thanks so much.
Texas senator Ted Cruz formally naming Carly Fiorina as vice-presidential runningmate. The former 2016 Republican presidential candidate herself and former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina, joins me now on the telephone.
Carly, thanks so much for joining us.
CARLY FIORINA (R), FORMER PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE (via telephone): Good morning, Maria. Thank you for having me.
BARTIROMO: You know, congratulations. It was a proud moment watching you up there when Ted Cruz first made this announcement.
What I want to get from you is, what's in it for you? I mean, we're going back and forth about Ted Cruz and where he is in the campaign. We hear all this name calling, which I'm going to get to in a moment. What are you going to bring to his campaign? And what's in it for you?
FIORINA: Well, you know, honestly Maria, I am doing this because I think it is not an exaggeration to say the soul of our party and the future of our nation are at stake.
I have said from the moment Donald Trump announced his candidacy he doesn't represent me, and he doesn't represent my party. He is almost liberal as Hillary Clinton is. Donald Trump cannot be our nominee. Hillary Clinton cannot be our president.
I think it's critically important that we have a real conservative as or nominee and in the White House who's going to stand up and fight the system that is corrupt and works for some but doesn't work for most of us. And so that's why I'm stand with Ted Cruz, and I'm going to fight hard. I really believe that's what's at stake now.
BARTIROMO: And you've got -- you know, we're here now going toward the end. I mean we're looking at, you know, the next couple of week as being really critical here. So if not now, then never, right? I mean you've got to do this now.
So let me ask you about that, because we're talking about strategy this morning. What will be your strategy to sort of cut through the noise?
Carly, we've been talking about all morning how John Boehner, you know, spoke about Ted Cruz. He had choice words for the Texas senator yesterday. Listen to this for a second. I want to get your reaction.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
JOHN BOEHNER, FORMER SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, UNITED STATES CONGRESS: Lucifer in the flesh --
I have Democratic friends and I Republican friends.I get along with almost everybody, but I have never word with a more miserable son of b**** in my life.
(END VIDEOTAPE) BARTIROMO: I mean, it is extraordinary to me, Carly, that the Republicans do not stick together. And you hear this kind of commentary from the former speaker of the House. What was your takeaway of those comments about Ted Cruz from John Boehner?
FIORINA: Well, first of all, I think Donald Trump has reduced the tone of this campaign for too many people.
Secondly, one of the things that I admire about Ted Cruz is you don't see him getting down in the dirt like this. You see him focusing on policy.
Third, John Boehner lost his speakership because he accomplished nothing with a Republican majority in the House. Those comments were completely inappropriate.
But here's everything you need to know about both John Boehner and Donald Trump. John Boehner said that he and Donald Trump are texting and golfing buddies. I rest my case.
When I say Donald Trump is the system, he will not challenge the system. All you need to know is that Donald Trump is texting and golfing buddies with John Boehner. He's given to Hillary Clinton, both her presidential and her Senate campaign, a total of seven times.
How do you do that? How do you give money and be buddies with both folks on two sides of the aisle? You know how and why you do that? Because you're gaming the system for your own personal enrichment and advancement, and that is the pattern of Donald Trump's life. He cannot be our nominee.
BARTIROMO: OK, so there's reality, as you put forth, obviously, everything you're saying, and then there's sentiment, Carly. What's the strategy to cut through the noise to make sure that the messages that you've just shared with us resonate with the American people in the next couple of weeks as we come down to the wire? How are you going to do this?
FIORINA: Well, first, I think the messages resonate with American people when they get to hear them. Unfortunately, too much of the media never allows people to hear them, because it's the Donald Trump show all the time. That's too bad. It has been that way ever since he got into this race. That, too, is factually correct, and every analysis demonstrates that.
On the other hand, I can tell you, I'm here in Indiana fighting really hard in Indiana. And to your point, Indiana really matters now. Wow, the whole -- the state of California is really going to matter now in a presidential primary. Good for the people of Indiana and the people of California.
You know, Maria, here's an analogy that I would say. When people get to hear this message, they respond to this message. And so I'm going to be out here fighting as hard as I know how. We are drawing enormous crowds in Indiana. Indiana votes, as you know, on Tuesday.
But you know, the NFL draft pick was last night, so let's use the analogy from football. You know, Donald Trump likes to say, well, I'm close so that's it. I'm the nominee. You know, I'm the nominee. I'm close. I'm going to get close to 1,237. 1,237 delegates represents the majority of delegates in the Republican Party.
Well, in football, the 30-yard line ain't a touchdown. The 20-yard line ain't a touchdown. The 5-yard line ain't a touchdown. Donald Trump is going to have to get a touchdown, and he doesn't have one and he's not going to get one.
And so we're going to I end up in Cleveland at a contested convention. And when Donald Trump doesn't win on that first ballot, he doesn't win.
BARTIROMO: OK. So that's the strategy.
What are you hearing from voters in Indiana right now, Carly? What's important to them? What are you doing in Indiana to really make sure to own Indiana come Tuesday night?
FIORINA: Well, you know, it's interesting. Indiana's a place where Carrier just took all its job and sent them to Mexico, and many, many of its jobs. And Donald Trump points that out. You know, he stands up in his typical rally.
But unfortunately, if you look at the pattern of Trump's business life, what you'll see is a guy who has played that system. That's why so much of his, you know, clothing line, his ties and the rest of it are manufactured in China. He's hiring foreign workers in Miralondo (ph) when American workers are standing in line trying to get those jobs. He's talking about raising taxes, not lowering taxes. And he never talks about rolling back regulatory overreach.
On the other hand, Ted Cruz understands, as do I, that the way to get this economy going and growing again is to restore entrepreneurship, innovation, to make sure small businesses thrive. That's why you have to repeal Obamacare.
Donald Trump likes Obamacare. He actually would like to go to a single payer system, which will force more jobs overseas.
Ted Cruz understands that a simple flat tax brings jobs back. He understands you've got to roll back all this regulatory overreach that drives people like Carrier out of the country in the first place.
In other words, that people in Indiana care about their jobs. They care about their liberties and their freedoms, the right to bear arms, the right to practice their religion freely. And they care about the security of this nation.
BARTIROMO: Right.
FIORINA: And so we're talking about what you actually have to do to bring jobs back to secure our liberties and to make sure that we lead again in the world so that we're safe in our neighborhood.
BARTIROMO: It's a message that certainly should resonate.
Carly, good to talk with you, as always. Thanks so much for joining us this morning.
FIORINA: Thanks, Maria. Have a great day.
BARTIROMO: You, too. We'll be watching you in Indiana.
Carly Fiorina joining us this morning.
Bringing the movie theater to you, next. We're looking at the hotels that are getting into the movie business, next.
And then later, Super Bowl champ Justin Tuck here in the studio. We're going to break down the results of the first round of the NFL draft. Back in a minute.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BARTIROMO: How about some luxury? More hotels upping the ante when it comes to luxury. But some offerings that used to be exclusive are becoming accessible to the broader public.
From Paris and across the pond to Chicago, boutique and high-end hotels alike are offering in-house movie theaters for film enthusiasts. You don't even have to stay at the hotel to take advantage of them.
Joining us right now from Los Angeles is senior editor at "In Touch Weekly," Kim Serafin.
Kim, good to see you. Thanks so much for joining us.
KIM SERAFIN, SENIOR EDITOR, IN TOUCH WEEKLY: Thanks so much.
BARTIROMO: I guess this is the reason people aren't even going to the movie theaters. Why do you have to go to the movie threat where you have these high-end theaters in your home and now in hotels?
SERAFIN: Yes, exactly. I mean talking about all of these boutique hotels that have these screening rooms and they do special screenings maybe with some themes. And you can get drinks, and you can get gourmet food and artisan popcorn and free popcorn.
And it's kind of what you're seeing not just at these boutique hotels, but, obviously, you're seeing a lot of actual movie theaters offer this to people, like Ipic, for example, which has leather reclining seats and, again, gourmet food and people bringing food and cocktails to you right in your seat.
And it's all about getting people back to theaters. Because, as you know, when you have Netflix when you have Hulu, when you have Amazon, you kind of want to just stay home. So when you have these options at theaters and screening rooms, this is why people go to theater.
BARTIROMO: I mean I'm sorry, but how obvious is this? You know, I mean, seriously, over last couple of years, you go into a theater, and it's an absolute mess. They should have doing this years ago, making the theaters actually nice to go to.
KELLY: And it's expensive, right? So if you have a family of four, and you're paying $15 a head, I mean it does add up. And that's just for ticket sales alone.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What are the finances of this for person who's actually going to theater? Is it more a ticket? Is it less? Is it that they want to gets Tastemakers in here, so they give it for free so you go talk about the movie?
BARTIROMO: What about that, Kim? You know best.
SERAFIN: Yes. Well, at some of these boutique hotels that are offering these screenings, you're not seeing movies that are out this weekend, for example. So you're not going to get to see "Captain America" when it opens next weekend. These are some more classic films, for example.
So the prices range. At one of the hotels in Oregon, it's $2 for children, $4 for adults, but then you pay for food. Then in Paris, there's a hotel that's up to $90, and you're getting champagne --
BARTIROMO: That's it?
SERAFIN: -- and you're getting, again, gourmet food. So it's a range of different prices.
But again, you're right. When you're going to a theater, if you're going to go see "Captain America" when it opens, or if you're going to see "The Jungle Book" this weekend, which will probably be number one again for the third weekend in a row, you're going to spend a lot of money buying popcorn and drinks.
And that's why something like "The Screening Room," Sean Parker's new service, is getting a lot of traction, because people just want to stay at home. They'd rather pay the $50, sit at home and just have their own food and drinks in there.
BARTIROMO: I would.
MCDOWELL: But, Kim, with that Sean Parker service, aren't the movie -- the actual production companies really going to fight him on that? Aren't they pushing back?
SERAFIN: Yes, well, you do have some high-profile people like J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg who are supporters, but then you have James Cameron, for example, not a supporter, and he's got those four "Avatar" sequels coming out.
And obviously, there's a reason to go to theaters. When you want to see "Avatar," you want to see it in the theater. When you wanted to see "Batman Vs. Superman," you wanted to see that in theater. And that's why, again, "The Jungle Book" --
BARTIROMO: Yes.
SERAFIN: -- a third weekend in a row number, this weekend, it's going to be number one again.
There are certain movies you really want to see in theater --
BARTIROMO: Right.
SERAFIN: -- and that's why a lot of these services are great when you can go to theater and sit in a nice reclining chair and get gourmet food and not have to worry about people texting also. I think that was a bad idea that we were talking about --
BARTIROMO: Yes, well, the movie --
SERAFIN: -- a few weeks ago.
(CROSSTALK)
BARTIROMO: -- that the movie theaters -- the movie makers are not going to give it away. So there you go. That's why, you know, you're some upset from some of those directors.
Kim, good to see you. Thanks so much for sharing these incites with us.
Kim Serafin joining us there.
Coming up next, the first round of the NFL draft in the books. Two-time Super Bowl winning defensive end Justin Tuck joins us with a look ahead and what to expect tonight. Back in a minute.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BARTIROMO: Good Friday morning, everybody. Welcome back. I'm Maria Bartiromo. It is Friday, April 29th. Here are your top stories at 8:00 a.m. on the East coast.
