MOSCOW (AP) — Russian officials in Crimea say they have intercepted approximately 4,000 bottles of counterfeit vodka that was being transported onto the peninsula.
The peninsula's security service said on Wednesday that they confiscated the haul of liquor— labeled as vodka— after criminal groups transported it to Crimea via the Kerch strait. A video of the sting, released to Russian media, shows the vodka in the back of a transit truck rented to the Russian postal service and two sedans.
It is unclear what became of the contraband alcohol.
Security services said didn't implicate the Russian postal service in the smuggling.
Ukraine cut off the transportation of food stuffs, including alcohol, to Crimea after Russia annexed the peninsula in March 2014, a move viewed by the West and Kiev as illegal.
