SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) — General Motors has announced that it will invest $148 million in its Spring Hill plant to meet the growing demand for popular trucks and SUVs with V-8 engines.

GM officials say the investment will allow the company to retain approximately 200 jobs.

The money will be used to enable the plant to quickly add capacity to build a type of V-8 engine that is currently available in the Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Cadillac Escalade, Yukon Denali and other GM vehicles. Officials say this is the first time the Spring Hill plant will build V-8 engines.

Company officials say this is part of more than $1.35 billion in investments that have been announced since 2010 for the operations in the plant, which is about 35 miles south of Nashville.
