NEW DELHI (AP) — India's prime minister says the government is close to sealing an agreement with France to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets.

Narendra Modi made the announcement Monday after meeting with President Francois Hollande who is on a three-day visit to India.

Modi said some financial details on the multibillion euro deal still need to be sorted out between the two sides.

Modi announced India's intention to buy the Rafale jets, manufactured by Dassault Aviation, during a visit to Paris in April, touching off several rounds of negotiations over the price and details such as servicing.

The two sides were expected to sign a final agreement during Hollande's visit.

Modi said he hoped that the commercial agreement would be finalized as soon as possible.
