HODA KOTB: There is literally a new gadget on the market every day, but last week`s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas brought together the best of the best in technology from more than thirty-six hundred companies representing more than a hundred and fifty countries.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It`s just huge. And guess who was there?
HODA KOTB: Who?
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Sorting through all the cool new gear for the New Year, the author of Gadget Nation and our gadget guy, Steve Greenberg.
HODA KOTB: Steve Greenberg. Steve O.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Steve O is right back.
HODA KOTB: IS that your-- that`s like your Super Bowl. You`re totally grooving on it.
STEVE GREENBERG: It`s like geek heaven. I think it`s my twentieth year going.
HODA KOTB: Yeah.
STEVE GREENBERG: So I`m very familiar with it.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: You are king of the geeks.
STEVE GREENBERG: You know, I try to keep that secret, but it is true.
HODA KOTB: All right. All right. So what`s happening here?
STEVE GREENBERG: Right over here, this is-- the first thing I brought back is for animals, not for people, it`s called CleverPet. This is Ardy.
HODA KOTB: Okay, yeah.
STEVE GREENBERG: And what it is it`s basically like a game console for dogs. They learn, using like a memory game how to reveal that area right there--
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: They get a treat?
STEVE GREENBERG: They don`t get treat, they get actually food, so they`re not actually, you know, overeating reading.
HODA KOTB: Yeah.
STEVE GREENBERG: And it`s just a daily allotment of food.
HODA KOTB: So they figure out-- touch the light?
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Look at that.
STEVE GREENBERG: And they figure out what--
HODA KOTB: And the food pops out?
STEVE GREENBERG: --what combination opens it up.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Look at that.
STEVE GREENBERG: And it goes-- it goes Wi-Fi to your phone, so you can keep track of how they`re doing during the day.
HODA KOTB: Look at him.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: He`s-- he`s so cute.
STEVE GREENBERG: For a sad lonely dog, if he`s bored, this will keep him busy all day.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Blakey.
HODA KOTB: Don`t say that about my dog.
STEVE GREENBERG: Ardy, you`re doing great.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: His mommy is on a book tour--
HODA KOTB: His mommy is on a book tour.
STEVE GREENBERG: So he needs a CleverPet.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: That`s right.
HODA KOTB: That`s great.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Thank you.
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay. Moving over--
HODA KOTB: That`s awesome.
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay. Next-- next up, this is called Earin. And this is the first truly wireless earbuds. So there`s no cords to get tangled, you just take these two little things, stick them in your ear like that.
HODA KOTB: And how`s the reception. Is it good?
STEVE GREENBERG: It`s great. The sound is amazing.
HODA KOTB: Is it on now?
STEVE GREENBERG: And it`s Bluetooth, at the moment we don`t have it on.
HODA KOTB: Okay.
STEVE GREENBERG: But I have heard it. It works really well.
HODA KOTB: How much is that?
STEVE GREENBERG: It`s two hundred ninety-nine dollars. A little pricy, brand-new, price will surely come down, but it works great, and there`s no wires to get--
HODA KOTB: Wow. That is crazy.
STEVE GREENBERG: This is a little case right here and then you plug it in and charge it up, really amazing. It`s going to be available at Best Buy, believe it or not.
HODA KOTB: Okay.
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay, next. This is called Ditto, and this is a really clever idea. This is a little vibrating button that actually syncs up to your phone, so if you get a phone call, you can actually pick specific people, so whenever those people happen, it vibrates.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I`m getting a phone call.
STEVE GREENBERG: Kathie Lee is wearing it right now.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: In my bra.
STEVE GREENBERG: On her bra strap.
HODA KOTB: Oh, you have it on?
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah.
STEVE GREENBERG: And as-- you can get specific-- specific text messages or a specific people, and you can customize the beep so that, you know-- so you can tell--
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: I`m taking that baby home.
STEVE GREENBERG: It`s a great idea.
(Cross talking)
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Okay.
STEVE GREENBERG: You say, hey, I really loved getting that call from you. Thank you.
HODA KOTB: Are we cooking?
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay. Next, we`re cooking right here. This is from Gourmia, and this is their Robotic 10-in-1 cooker. So this will do a whole bunch of things from saute to cook. So for instance, right here we`re baking some brownies from cupcakes right there. This is risotto. What`s cool about this risotto is that it has a self-stirrer built into it as well. And it`s using hot air instead of just regular heat, so it cooks faster and you don`t have to put oil on it, so it`s less calories. So it`s faster, less calories. Right here, actually making a steak in there. It looks like a pretty nice looking steak.
HODA KOTB: Are you kidding me?
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Look at that.
STEVE GREENBERG: Isn`t that cool? From-- from Gourmia.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: And what-- how much does this costs?
STEVE GREENBERG: One fifty. A hundred and fifty-nine dollars at Amazon.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Doesn`t smell as good as Ray Liotta, but it smells good.
STEVE GREENBERG: Really good.
HODA KOTB: All right.
STEVE GREENBERG: Next, this is very clever.
HODA KOTB: Yeah.
STEVE GREENBERG: Well, Ray Liotta, you can`t compare with Ray Liotta.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: No.
STEVE GREENBERG: This is called SMARTwheel. This was actually invented by a teenager, in fact, he`s standing right over there. There`s our teenager right there.
HODA KOTB: What`s your name?
TJ EVARTS: TJ Evarts.
HODA KOTB: TJ, all right. So what does it do?
STEVE GREENBERG: So what this does-- it prevents distracted driving. You have to keep your hands in the steering wheel. If you take them off for four seconds, but if you don`t, if you keep for a longer than that, it will send a message to-- basically your parents, who`re monitoring and say hey, what was going on? Why you take your hands off of the steering wheel.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Why did you think of this? Did you get in trouble?
TJ EVARTS: Not me, but others my age.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yeah. Texting problem, isn`t there?
HODA KOTB: Yeah.
TJ EVARTS: Yes.
HODA KOTB: Okay.
STEVE GREENBERG: Smart idea.
HODA KOTB: What an idea. Congratulations.
STEVE GREENBERG: SMARTwheel.
HODA KOTB: All right.
STEVE GREENBERG: SMARTwheel USA.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: This I need-- my--
STEVE GREENBERG: This is for taking your temperature. This is from a Withings and this is called Thermo. So you basically just put up here like this and, you know, other ones, there are some of like this, you have to kind of search for the temporal vein artery, here it does automatically and it sends the information to your Smartphone and it can track your temperature over a course of time.
(Cross talking)
HODA KOTB: We got to get to this one before we`re out of time.
STEVE GREENBERG: Oh, my gosh.
HODA KOTB: You`re teasing it.
STEVE GREENBERG: Oh, well--
HODA KOTB: Yeah. Do it.
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay. This one is really cool. This is called a Kolibree. And this is a smart toothbrush, basically what it does, here, you can see it (unintelligible).
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: It tells when you`re done.
STEVE GREENBERG: And it tells you where-- it shows you where--
HODA KOTB: Kids will love it.
STEVE GREENBERG: It shows you where the show-- exactly and where to brush.
HODA KOTB: Where you need to brush.
STEVE GREENBERG: And it`s attached to Wi-Fi.
HODA KOTB: Love it.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Very cute. And a little Dino.
STEVE GREENBERG: This is little Dino. This is very cool. It acts as like Siri for kids. You can ask a question. So, for example, how-- how far away is the moon? It should answer. You know, I love live television for a reason. Oh, he`s answering, but it`s very quiet.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Very quiet.
STEVE GREENBERG: Okay, let`s try.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Like the music today. Okay.
STEVE GREENBERG: But it`s-- you can ask a bunch of question, how fast--
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Oh, we believe you. We believe you.
STEVE GREENBERG: It works amazingly.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Alrighty.
STEVE GREENBERG: Really cool.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Thank you, Steve.
HODA KOTB: He is a thirty-year veteran to the music industry. But to his adoring fans, he`ll always be a New Kid on the Block.
KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Danny Wood sings his newest hit and shares a very personal story, right after this.
