Researchers say they have discovered a natural preservative that can destroy a variety of bacteria, including E. coli, salmonella and listeria. Applying the preservative to freshly made food could allow products to last for years rather than days. Product treated with the bisin preservative would not need refrigeration, and some foods containing bisin could be on the market in the next few years.
