Major Asset Preservation in the Middle East

Cortec® and the Kanoo Group were able to capitalize on Dugas' shutdown and provide high-quality, environmentally safe corrosion protection to the plant.

Cortec

Cortec® Corp. and its distributor in the Middle East, The Kanoo Group, have been chosen among fierce competition by Dugas, one of the leading natural gas processing companies in UAE, for preservation project of their manufacturing plant. Dugas, or Dubai Natural Gas Company Ltd., operates a major natural gas processing facility and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) manufacturing plant located on the shores of the Arabian Gulf.

The MTBE plant produces an additive for unleaded gasoline to allow cleaner, more complete burning, thereby reducing emissions. The Cortec2plant was shut down for an indefinite period due to the shortage of feed supply. Cortec® and the Kanoo Group were able to capitalize on this opportunity and provide high-quality corrosion protection to the plant that is also safe for the environment.

Among serious bidders and cut-throat competition for the project, the Kanoo Group was selected because of Cortec's product strength, superior effectiveness, technical expertise and the techno-commercial offerings.

Kanoo Group’s engineers discussed with the customer the possibilities of corrosion occurrences while the plant was down. A series of presentations were made, and the company offered the customer a complete system of lay-up and mothballing for long-term corrosion protection.

The total mothballing area is estimated at 80,000 square meters, with around 30,000 square meters of insulated pipes and columns. The corrosion under insulation (CUI) application was a major challenge, but was achieved successfully thanks to Cortec's custom-engineered, integrated solutions to control corrosion in a variety of applications within the most aggressive corrosive environments, including insulated piping.

Cortec3Thanks to Cortec's high-performance and environmentally safe products, along with the help of a skilled team and good project management, the entire project was completed within seven months, much earlier than planned.

Personnel at all levels within the plant appreciated efforts in the successful completion of the project and expressed great satisfaction with the way the project was being conducted. The Kanoo Group also received appreciation letters for their efforts. Since the products and technical support met all of the client’s expectations, the project was awarded.
Cortec’s patented products used in this preservation project conform to NACE Standard RP 0487-2000 and military specification MIL-PRF-3420, and are RoHS compliant.
