GE’s ADAPT Wind 1.7 Introduces Shaft Crack Detection and Intelligent Change Indication

The ADAPT 1.7 is the latest addition to the Advanced Distributed Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT) condition monitoring platform from the Bently Nevada Product line of GE Measurement & Control. The company says ADAPT 1.7 can be retro-fitted to existing ADAPT turbine monitoring system to provide shaft vibration monitoring.

The ADAPT 1.7 is the latest addition to the Advanced Distributed Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT) condition monitoring platform from the Bently Nevada Product line of GE Measurement & Control (Minden, Nev.). The company says ADAPT 1.7 can be retro-fitted to existing ADAPT turbine monitoring system to provide shaft vibration monitoring and change indicator algorithm technology. In addition, the system can improve machine reliability by establishing baseline operating conditions, which allows crew to anticipate drivetrain failures and schedule maintenance ahead of time. Other features include:

  • Additional eddy current probes and keyphasor reference transducers on the main shaft, near the main bearing.
  • The ability to monitor shaft vibration while specifically searching for tiny shift cracks, using a proven monitoring technique.
  • The ChangeAlert™ monitoring system, which uses a combination of statistics and digital processing techniques to detect machine problems.
  • Long synchronous waveform displays, which offer enough bandwidth to detect main bearing defects.
