WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania coal mine has temporarily suspended production due to underground conditions.

Alpha Natural Resources says in a Monday release that production has stopped at its Cumberland mine in Waynesburg. That's about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. Alpha is based in Bristol, Virginia.

The company says workers are trying to remedy the geological issues and that it will be at least several weeks before production resumes.

During that time a reduced workforce will focus on bringing the mine back into production.
