Damaged Pipeline Expected To Be Operational Today

Xcel Energy says it expects one of three natural gas pipelines knocked out by an explosion in Canada will be back at full capacity by Monday afternoon.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Xcel Energy says it expects one of three natural gas pipelines knocked out by an explosion in Canada will be back at full capacity by Monday afternoon.

But the Minneapolis-based utility is still asking its customers in parts of North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin to conserve by turning down heat and avoiding using appliances that burn natural gas.

Spokeswoman Mary Sandok says it's clear customers responded when the conservation appeal went out following the explosion Saturday.

The call for conservation came just as much of the territory confronted another stretch of bitter cold.
