This week's Manufacturing Snapshot of the Week is an image of the fire caused by the February 16th train derailment near Charleston, West Virginia.

The train was carrying 3 million gallons of North Dakota crude oil, and the derailment sent fireballs into the sky and burned down a nearby home.

Meagan Parrish of Chem.Info writes, “No one was killed in the incident, but at least one person was sent to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and about 200 people were evacuated from their nearby homes. The explosions continued for hours and caused crude from the train cars to leak into a local creek.”

The incident is fueling a conversation about upgrading safety requirements for tank cars.
