Westinghouse Solar Files Complaint With ITC

Solar power company said it filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission, accusing two Canadian companies of infringing on its patents.

CAMPBELL, Calif. (AP) -- Solar power company Westinghouse Solar Inc. said Tuesday that it filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission, accusing two Canadian companies of infringing on its patents.

Westinghouse Solar alleged in the complaint that Zep Solar and Canadian Solar infringed on two of its patents. It is asking that those companies' products be banned from the U.S. Westinghouse Solar said its patented technology makes solar panels that are easier to install than most.

Zep Solar and Canadian Solar did not return messages seeking comment.

Shares of Westinghouse Solar gained 8 cents, or 12 percent, to close at 73 cents.
