The Sequent Direct Injection system was introduced last week by the company's BRC Gas Equipment subsidiary, in Cherasco, Italy, at the 31st International Automobile Exhibition in Bologna, Italy.
Sales are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2007, with an an initial sales goal in Italy of about $1.0 million resulting from aftermarket vehicle conversions in 2007.
Direct fuel injection enables the fuel source to be efficiently delivered directly into the combustion chamber of a vehicle at a pressure of 580/14500 PSI.
According to Mariano Costamagna, president and CEO of Fuel Systems Solutions, the Sequent Direct Injection system is the first technology to convert gasoline-powered direct injection systems to operate on gaseous fuels.
Currently, most OEMs offer at least one vehicle that has a direct fuel injection system - representing about 25 to 30 automotive models in the market, said Costamagna.
