Spanish Company Says It Can Make Oil From Plankton

Bio Fuel Systems claims plankton oil can reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

In an attempt to find an alternative, inexhaustible source of energy, Bio Fuel Systems (BFS), Spain, said it has come up with a system for producing oil from phytoplankton that involves reduced space and will moderate costs.

BFS claims that the resulting product of their system would be more productive and profitable than any other development in the biocombustible sector to date.  It has also signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Alicante for scientific development of the project.

According to BFS, a 52.000 km2 facility could produce 95 million barrels of its new fuel a day. The new fuel would reduce carbon dioxide emissions and would not contain sulphur dioxide or other contaminants.
