FuelCell Increases Power Output Of DFC Plants

New design boasts 20 percent power output increase.

FuelCell Energy Inc. announced Wednesday its advanced cell stack design which increases the power output of its Direct FuelCell (DFC) power plants by 20 percent.

DFC power plants have one or more stacks, based on system configuration and customer power needs. Through the improvement of thermal management of electrochemical activity within the stack, FuelCell can increase the power output from each cell and produce more electricity from the same basic components. All of FuelCell’s products use common cell components, making the increase possible across the product line.

The combination of the 20 percent increase with ongoing cost-reduction programs is a major part of reaching FuelCell’s cost goal of $3,200 to $3,500 per kilowatt at the end of this calendar year for its DFC3000 power plant.

FuelCell expects to have products with the increased output available for shipping starting the second quarter of 2007.
