A technology executive in the oil and natural gas industry said this week that cyberattacks on exploratory and drilling operations are on the rise.
Eric Knapp of Honeywell Process Solutions, which provides automation to the energy sector and many other industries, said at an event in Madrid that the company's oil and natural gas clients are experiencing an increase in both the amount of cyber activity and the sophistication of the attacks.
"We can extrapolate from that that globally there’s an increase," Knapp, the company's global director of cyber security solutions and technology, told Rigzone.
A recent analysis expected the security services market for the oil and gas industry to rise over the next several years due to the increasing threat from cyberattacks and growing efforts by governments to secure drilling operations.
