Emergency Crews Respond To Chemical Mishap

Dalton police are asking residents near a manufacturing plant to stay indoors as they respond to a chemical leak.

DALTON, Ga. (AP) — Dalton police are asking residents near a manufacturing plant to stay indoors as they respond to a chemical leak.

Police said in a statement that the leak happened Monday morning at the MFG Chemical Inc. plant on Kimberly Park Drive, which is near Interstate 75 and the north Dalton bypass. They said there are no reports of injuries.

A Dalton Fire Department report said an unsecured lid on a reactor vessel led to a chemical vapor release.

Police said the chemical is "not poisonous" but is an irritant if it's inhaled.

Police said Kimberly Park Drive, Willowdale Road, and Crow Valley Road were closed Monday morning, and that people should avoid the area.

Dalton is about 90 miles northwest of Atlanta, and about 30 miles southwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
