Dow Chemical and DuPont Co. have announced that the companies plan to close their historic merger on Aug. 31.
Since the deal was announced in December 2015, the companies have been working to gain approval from anti-trust regulators around the world. This daunting task has caused the companies to push back their intended closing date a few times.
The companies plan to merge into one company called DowDuPont Inc. before breaking into three smaller companies focused on agriculture, specialty chemicals and material sciences.
Before the spinoffs take shape, the new company will have a market value close to $150 billion, and supplant BASF as the world’s biggest chemical company.
According to Bloomberg, the companies will seal the deal after the stock market closes on Aug. 31. The next day, trading will begin for shares of DowDuPont Inc.
