CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Duke Energy Corp. (DUK) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $686 million.
On a per-share basis, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of 98 cents. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions and to account for discontinued operations, were $1.01 per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.02 per share.
The electric utility posted revenue of $5.56 billion in the period.
Duke Energy expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.50 to $4.70 per share.
Duke Energy shares have risen 10 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 11 percent. The stock has risen slightly in the last 12 months.
