Ireland-based retailer Primark reportedly recalled a series of its men's flip-flops due to concerns that they could include elevated levels of a carcinogenic chemical.
The Guardian reports that the footwear contained chrysene, which is commonly found in darker dyes. Although a company official told the publication that the risk to consumers was "minimal," the chrysene content exceeded "the 1.0 mg/kg requirement" for the chemical.
The recall affects blue, black and khaki sandals under the Cedar Wood State label. They went on sale in January and were pulled from store shelves early last month.
The spokesman said that Primark takes "the safety of our customers, and the quality of our products, very seriously."
"All new orders with this factory have been suspended while we carry out a thorough investigation," the company added. "A full refund is being offered to all customers.”
