Dow Chemical reportedly expects its production volume to grow at a double-digit pace in China due to increased investment in sustainable products.
Company executives told the state-owned China Daily that Dow's 2025 Sustainability Goals correspond with the China’s sustainability push and that its new solutions in energy, infrastructure and food packaging will accelerate the government’s efforts.
"We have a very sharp focus here in China on doing research (on) more sustainable products," Neil Hawkins, Dow's chief sustainability office, told the publication.
The Michigan-based company did not offer details about the investment, but said that it would consider additions in both manufacturing capacity and its human workforce in China.
Dow recently expanded its operations in Zhangjiagang, near Shanghai, as well as far inland locations in Chengdu, in central China, and Urumqi, in the nation's far northwestern corner.
An analyst told China Daily that although U.S. companies see opportunities to invest in China, they are also wary about an uncertain political climate and potential changes in trade relations.
Dow expects to complete its merger with rival DuPont in coming weeks, but will split into three separate, publicly traded companies over the following two years.
