Land Rover plans to discontinue production of its Discovery Sport compact SUV at the end of the year, Autocar reported. A JLR spokesperson told the publication that the move aligns with normal product lifecycles and that the automaker will begin a “managed sunset of manufacturing” leading up to the end of production.
Autocar noted that the move coincides with the European Union’s updated General Safety Regulation 2 rules, which require multiple safety features not offered by the Discovery Sport.
The automaker launched the vehicle in the UK in 2015 and received and updated it in 2019 with a hybrid powertrain and four-cylinder engine. According to Autocar, it ranked as a top seller during its first full year on sale but became the company’s slowest-selling model in 2025.
The vehicle’s discontinuation could open the door for Land Rover’s new Defender Sport off-roader and a low-slung Range Rover GT.
