Faraday Future Teases Its First Electric Car

Faraday Future debuted last year amid promises to challenge Tesla for supremacy in the nascent electric vehicle market.

Electric vehicle maker Faraday Future teased its first production car over the past two weeks as it prepares to introduce the vehicle at the annual CES show next month.

The embattled automaker released a series of darkened, still photos of the car, as well as a brief video that showed the start of a race between a concealed Faraday vehicle and a series of luxury cars — including a Tesla.

"We take our powertrain testing seriously," the company said on its Twitter account.

The company began construction on a massive auto plant outside Las Vegas, but production problems, financial instability and staff turnover forced Faraday to substantially curtail its ambitious product line.

Faraday debuted only a non-functioning prototype at the 2016 CES, and after a mysterious debut, the connections between the company and Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting came to light. Jia's tech and media conglomerate LeEco reportedly dealt with significant financial turmoil this year, and Faraday halted construction of the Nevada plant. Although Faraday officials are preparing to move forward with the unveiling at CES and vowed to start production next year, a recent report suggested that it would miss its shipping deadlines for those first vehicles.
