Hershey Warns it Can't Meet Halloween Demand

The reason is complicated.

It’s still the peak of summer and a major confectionary company is already making projections about Halloween.

Hershey, a mainstay in every trick-or-treat basket, says it already anticipates it won’t be able to meet demand for the popular fall holiday.

The reason is complicated, but one thing that’s clearly impacted Hershey has been a pandemic trend that refuses to quit: Americans are eating more candy.

And because Hershey uses the same production lines for seasonal goods as it does for its year-round offerings, there’s a bottleneck coming.

Hershey CEO Michele Buck said it was “a tough decision” but the company has to prioritize “everyday on-shelf availability."

Outside of high demand, supply chain issues are impacting Hershey, as well, including high prices for dairy and a lack of available ingredients.

Buck largely blamed the war in Ukraine for such disruptions.
