Medical Product Company To Bring Auburn 300 Jobs

SiO2 Medical Products is investing $90 million in the Alabama plant, which will make products for the biological drugs industry.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — A medical product company plans to build a new manufacturing plant in the Auburn Technology Park West, bringing up to 300 new jobs to Lucas County.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley announced Tuesday that SiO2 Medical Products is investing $90 million in the plant, which will make products for the biological drugs industry.

The governor's news release says the Retirement Systems of Alabama partnered with the company to bringthe plant to Auburn. RSA CEO David Bronner says the project was two years in the making and financing closed last week.

Alabama offered the company $750,000 for construction costs and worker recruitment and training services in addition to other tax credits.

According to the news release, SiO2 has roots in Auburn dating to 1994. Construction of the plant is under way.
