Deere Donates $1M To Help Japan

World's largest maker of agricultural equipment said the foundation will also match any contributions from employees up to an additional $500,000.

MOLINE, Ill. (AP) -- The John Deere Foundation is giving $1 million to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan.

The world's largest maker of agricultural equipment said Tuesday that the foundation will also match any contributions from Deere & Co. employees up to an additional $500,000.

Deere's Chairman and CEO Samuel Allen says the company wants to help Japan recover after this month's earthquake and tsunami because the tragic events are having a profound effect on so many people.

The Deere Foundation's grant to help Japan does not include its regular gifts to the Red Cross. Deere still plans to give $250,000 to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund and $250,000 the International Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
