Sara Lee Sells Cleaning Products Business For $50M

Food and consumer products maker plans to sell a cleaning products division that does business in Australia and New Zealand for about $50 million to an Australian company.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) -- Food and consumer products maker Sara Lee Corp. plans to sell a cleaning products division that does business in Australia and New Zealand for about $50 million to an Australian company.

Australia's Symex Holdings Ltd. is buying Sara Lee's White King and Janola unit, which generated $28 million in sales in fiscal 2009, Sara Lee said.

The companies expect to close the deal in the first quarter of 2011.

Sara Lee has been shedding less profitable units.

Earlier this month, it closed a $1.6 billion sale of its body care and European detergent segments to Unilever NV.
