Pfizer Buys Synbiotics

Pharmaceutical company said it bought Synbiotics Corp. for an undisclosed amount, adding to the company's animal health unit.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Pfizer Inc. said Wednesday it bought Synbiotics Corp. for an undisclosed amount, adding to the company's animal health unit.

Synbiotics, based in Kansas City, Mo., makes immunodiagnostic tests for animals. Pfizer said the global immunodiagnostics market is valued at $735 million annually.

Veterinary immunodiagnostics is aimed at detecting viruses or bacteria in animals.

Pfizer shares gained 2 cents to $17.61 in afternoon trading.
