Hostess Brands announced a recall of 710,000 cases of its snack cakes and donuts due to potential undeclared allergens.

The Kansas City-based maker of Twinkies said that it used flour from supplier Grain Craft that was placed under a recall over peanut residue. As a result, the company said, the recalled products could contain low levels of the residue.

Although trace amounts of peanuts can be life-threatening if consumed by those with severe allergies, Hostess said that the amounts in the flour and its products were not expected to cause problems for the "vast majority" of allergic consumers.

As of late last week, the company said it had received notices of two allergic reactions related to its products.

Hostess encouraged peanut-sensitive or allergic customers that purchased the affected products to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recall includes select batches of Chocodile Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Zingers and several donut varieties. They were sold to grocery stores, convenience stores and distributors throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
