Worzalla is an employee-owned printing company headquartered in Stevens Point, Wis. The company has been printing books for more than 125 years — everything from children’s books to coffee table books.
This week, the company completed a $12.5 million expansion that included new machinery and capital improvements.
Worzalla added 50,000 square feet of manufacturing space, as well as a new Heidelberg 106 press and a Kolbus perfect binder.
The company even held a contest to name the Heidelberg. It’s now known as the “The Polar Ex-Press” thanks to a local school. The name is fitting since Worzalla is best known as the domestic manufacturer of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
The company also prints titles from well known book publishers, including Disney Books, Abrams, Simon and Schuster, Hachette, Penguin Random House and HarperCollins.
The expansion created 50 new positions, but due to the global pandemic, the company had to hold a virtual ribbon-cutting.
According to Jim Fetherston, president and CEO of Worzalla, the company has survived for more than a century in a tough printing industry by adapting and evolving.
The company has several open positions, including roles for shift supervisor, skilled bindery operations and lead web/sheet fed press operators, as well as entry-level positions.
