Linde North America recently unveiled its environmentally friendly gas injection systems to more efficiently control pH, biological oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved organics and odors in water and wastewater treatment plants. According to the company, its oxygen (O2), ozone (O3) and carbon dioxide (CO2) gas-dissolution systems can improve treatment process efficiencies, while helping customers meet environmental requirements — often at a lower cost than existing treatment methods. Linde water treatment technology accommodates many industries, including dairy and beverage, meat and poultry, pulp and paper, textiles and dyeworks; as well as prepared foods, laundry, cement, desalination and chemical processing. More specifically:
- The SOLVOX® process, which offers an effective supplement or replacement to forced air systems, decreases BOD, dissolved organics and odors. Since air is only 21 percent oxygen, the SOLVOX oxygenation process can be almost 5 times more efficient. Oxygen use can also save energy required for compressors in high-volume aeration systems.
- The SOLVOCARB® process is a fast way to neutralize alkaline wastewater with a high degree of control using CO2. When dissolved in water, CO2 forms carbonic acid to quickly reduce pH to appropriate levels for discharge. Furthermore, carbon dioxide is an inert gas and mild buffering agent, providing a much safer alternative to hazardous and corrosive mineral acid treatments, such as sulfuric acid (H2SO4). CO2 gases are also important to reverse osmosis and remineralization systems.
