Hormel on Tuesday named a new permanent chief executive after more than a year under an interim CEO.
The Minnesota-based maker of Spam, Planters, Dinty Moore and many other brands said that John Ghingo, currently its president and a member of its board of directors, will become its president and CEO in late October.
He will succeed Jeff Ettinger, the company’s former top executive who was named to a 15-month term as interim CEO following the retirement of JIm Snee early last year. Ghingo was promoted from vice president for retail to company president at that time, as well.
Ghingo previously led Hormel brand Applegate Farms from 2018 to 2022 and returned to the company as VP for retail in 2024. His career has also included spans at Mondelez and WhiteWave Foods.
“John has quickly demonstrated his ability to lead at enterprise scale, setting clear strategic direction and translating strategy into disciplined execution,” Hormel Chairman Bill Newlands said in the announcement. “Throughout his career he has built strong teams, strengthened iconic brands, championed innovation and delivered results.”
“I am honored to lead Hormel Foods, a company with an extraordinary legacy, trusted brands and a clear purpose,” added Ghingo. “We have real momentum and a talented team. I am energized to build on that foundation.”
Both Ghingo and Ettinger will remain on the company’s board.
