Samson Sky, makers of the Switchblade Flying Car, said it has secured an investment of $80 million from Dubai-based Matin Group. CEO Sam Bousfield, who founded Samson and designed the Switchblade, said the funds will be used to establish Samson Sky's first 180,000-square-foot Switchblade production facility, to be located in the U.S.
Samson Sky has entered into a joint venture with the Matin Group to accelerate into commercial production, with $20 million still remaining to be raised for full production funding.
With seating for two plus luggage, the Switchblade Flying Car is a hybrid-electric driving and flying vehicle that the company says features "sports car performance on the ground and high performance in the air." It runs on premium auto gas, fits in a standard garage and is driven to a nearby airport using highways or local roads.
The Switchblade transforms from driving to flying mode in three minutes at the push of a button. The company said the Switchblade Flying Car had its successful official First Flight in November 2023.
