Auto Parts Supplier Expanding Ind. Factory

An auto parts supplier is planning to expand a central Indiana factory and add a couple hundred jobs.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- An auto parts supplier is planning to expand a central Indiana factory and add a couple hundred jobs.

Heartland Automotive's factory in Lafayette makes dashboards and other interior parts for Subaru's nearby vehicle assembly plant. The Heartland expansion is a ripple effect of Subaru's announcement in May of a major expansion that's expected to add 900 workers.

The Journal & Courier reports Heartland Automotive vice president Ronan Mtoi told a city board Thursday that the company will spend $38 million to expand and equip the factory.

About 90 people now work at the factory, where Mtoi says some 220 jobs are expected to be added in the next two years.
