FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A Fort Worth, Texas beef processor is recalling nearly 16,000 pounds of beef products because they may be contaminated by E. coli.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday that a "high" health risk exists for products provided by PFP Enterprises. There are no reports of consumers being sickened.
The products were produced Dec. 5 and distributed to retail stores and restaurants in Arizona, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, and Texas. The products subject to recall have the establishment number "Est. 34715" inside the USDA Mark of Inspection.
Federal inspectors became aware of the possible contamination through PFP Enterprises' testing program. Federal authorities say the company through an oversight failed to finalize testing to determine if contamination existed.
E. coli is a bacteria with strains that can cause severe food poisoning.
