TOKYO, March 2 (Kyodo) — Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. said Friday it will construct new plants and expand existing plants in Japan and overseas to increase its production capacity for mining machinery amid robust global demand for resources.
In Japan, Hitachi Construction will build four more plants in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, to manufacture large hydraulic excavators and dump trucks. The company currently has five plants in Ibaraki prefecture, just north of Tokyo.
Tokyo-based Hitachi Construction will also expand existing plants in Indonesia and Canada, as well as build a new plant in Indonesia. Production in Cibitung, Indonesia, will be increased of parts for excavators, including parts to be shipped to Japan. Hitachi Construction will expand its plant in Guelph, Canada, to increase production of mining dump trucks mainly for sale in North America and Latin America.
Hitachi Construction will invest about 47 billion yen in total on the expansion. It plans to create about 560 jobs in Japan by fiscal 2015 and an additional 100 jobs by fiscal 2018.
