BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A Canadian company has pleaded guilty in federal court in Burlington to charges that it brought drug-tainted cattle feed into Vermont and then made a false statement to Customs and Border Protection officials about it.
Yves Bolduc, president Meunerie Sawyerville, Inc., appeared Wednesday in federal court in Rutland to plead guilty.
U.S. authorities say the company sent a load of cattle feed into the U.S. that contained the antibiotic monensin at levels higher than allowed by the Food and Drug Administration.
The load was ordered warehoused after testing at the border, pending further testing. Authorities say Bolduc ordered it delivered to a farm, then made a sham shipment of similar looking cattle feed with false Customs documentation.
The government is seeking an $80,000 fine and a year's probation.
