PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) β Rhode Island officials say at least 128 food facilities in the state received ground beef products recalled by a Michigan company.
The health department said Tuesday the products may contain E. coli bacteria and shouldn't be eaten.
The products were sent to distributors for restaurant and retail use in at least four other states including Massachusetts. Eleven illnesses have been reported, but none in Rhode Island.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the affected Wolverine Packing Co. products were produced between March 31 and April 18. They have the establishment number "EST. 2574B" and will have a production date code in the format "Packing Nos: MM DD 14" between "03 31 14" and "04 18 14."
E. coli can cause severe cramps, nausea and diarrhea, and other complications.
