Narragansett Brewing Company Heads Home to Rhode Island

Officials have announced that the Narragansett Brewing Company will be moving its brewing operations back to Rhode Island for the first time since 1983.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Officials have announced that the Narragansett Brewing Company will be moving its brewing operations back to Rhode Island for the first time since 1983.

WPRI-TV reports President Mark Hellendrung announced the brewer's relocation on the company's website on Sunday morning. Narragansett, which was founded in Cranston in 1890, has been brewing its beer in Rochester, New York.

Hellendrung wrote that the company will move into a complex on Main Street in Pawtucket later this year. Corporate offices will move from Providence to the Pawtucket facility next week.

Several months will be dedicated to restoring the building and installing brewery equipment.

Hellendrung says plans to move the storied brand back to Rhode Island faltered several times over the years, most recently when a fire destroyed a prospective site in Providence.
