MWV Specialty Chemicals Announces $9.3 Million Expansion

MWV Specialty Chemicals will expand its existing operations in Charleston County, South Carolina. The $9.3 million investment will serve as an innovation center for expanding capabilities in automotive emissions control and sustainable chemicals for the oilfield, road construction and adhesives global markets.

MWV Specialty Chemicals, a division of MeadWestvaco Corporation, will expand its existing operations in Charleston County, South Carolina. The $9.3 million investment is expected to support the division’s local workforce and growing global business. The new technology center near its existing headquarters will serve as an innovation center for the company to expand its capabilities in automotive emissions control and sustainable chemicals for the oilfield, road construction and adhesives global markets. The center is expected to begin operations in early 2015.

MWV Specialty Chemicals is among the top 50 chemical companies in the U.S., approaching $1 billion in sales annually. The division employs around 450 people in the Charleston area and more than 1,200 worldwide. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits.

MWV Specialty Chemicals manufactures, markets and distributes specialty chemicals derived from sawdust and other by-products of the papermaking process in North America, Europe, South America and Asia.
