Small Town Stresses Over Oil Transport Facility

Residents in Powers Lake are concerned about a proposed oil transport facility that they say would be built too close to the city and the lake.

POWERS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Residents in Powers Lake are concerned about a proposed oil transport facility that they say would be built too close to the city and the lake.

The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1mA7SBn ) that Powers Lake Trading and Transport Company is planning to build the facility.

Resident Jake Douts says he's worried the facility is too close to the local school. He says the transport facility will bring heavy truck traffic and accidents. He has been on the city ambulance squad for 35 years.

Douts say most residents aren't opposed to the facility, just where the company plans to build it.

Douts says people think the proposed building is also too close to a main watershed.

Other residents say they want more information before the project moves forward.
