LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — The five workers injured during a fire at a steel plant in northeastern Ohio have been released from hospitals.
Those employees were among dozens in the building at the Republic Steel plant in Lorain when the fire started Saturday afternoon.
Plant officials say there were no serious injuries.
The plant's director of operations said in a statement that the company, United Steelworkers Local 1104 and the equipment manufacturer have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Operations director Julian Sanchez says the fire occurred during 'hot commissioning' of steelmaking operations at the plant.
Lorain Fire Department Captain Tom Baker said Saturday that some type of heat source found its way into the oxygen system for the new furnace. Baker expects a damage estimate in the millions of dollars.
