CORAOPOLIS, Pa. (AP) — American Bridge Co. has begun shutting down a western Pennsylvania fabricating plant, and will eventually lay off 77 workers in the process.
The company announced in October that it would be shutting down the plant in Coraopolis (kor-ee-AH'-poh-lus).
The company in 1984 closed its operations in Ambridge — a Beaver County borough named for the company, located about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. But the company had continued to fabricate steel for bridges since 1999 at the Coraopolis plant about 10 miles west of Pittsburgh.
The company announced plans to close the plant in a filing with state labor officials. American Bridge also filed a similar notice that it will close another plant in Reedsport, Ore., this month, idling about 55 workers.
