SUMTER, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is expected on hand for a ceremony to officially open Continental Tire's new plant in Sumter.

The company says Haley and company executives are planning to make remarks at an event scheduled for Tuesday. So far, the predicted winter weather hasn't prompted officials to cancel those plans.

Ground was broken in March 2012 at the new $500 million facility for Continental Tire, the North America arm of German-based Continental AG.

Continental rolled out its first test tires last year. The plant is expected to be completely built and fully operational in 2021.
