CHICAGO (AP) -- With Illinois Gov.Pat Quinn, some congressmen and state officials promising support, some 400 people at a Chicago synagogue launched an effort to put pressure on gun manufacturers and retailers that sell guns to help curb gun violence.

On Sunday, the large audience packed into the Chicago Sinai Congregation to hear a host of speakers. Some, like Quinn and State Senate President John Cullerton and U.S. Rep Jan Schakowski promising to help find organizations and companies that might help convince manufacturers to do things like work to prevent criminals and people with a history of gun violence and others from getting their hands on guns.

Others told emotional stories of losing loved ones to guns violence or being shot themselves.
